Gwrach Ynys, Edwardian country house

Portmeirion

PortmeirionThough Gwrach Ynys stands less than a mile, as the crow flies, from this Italian village, it will take you fifteen minutes to drive around the estuary to arrive at the gates. This famous attraction, celebrating its 80'th anniversary in 2006, is the creation of the famous architect Sir Clough Williams Ellis, who used his architecture to enhance the natural setting of the cove. The village stretches down to the beach and there are some fine walks around the Gwyllt. The village, scene of the filming of the iconic TV series The PortmeirionPrisoner in the 1960s, is now a very popular wedding destination, and many wedding guests find our house ideally situated.

Clough's daughter, Susan, is the creator of the Portmeirion Pottery range which you will find in our dining room. There is a shop selling the pottery in the village as well as in other towns in the area.
